Hydrogeothermal CHP
Hydrogeothermal energy is extracted from deep ground wells naturally occurring in aquifers in depths of 1000 – 4000 meter. These aquifers may be used for the supply of larger settlements and industrial areas with heat and power.
Approximately 25 larger plants with an installed load of 100 kW up to 20 MW operate in germany that use deep ground as energy source. Particularly geothermal district heatings or balneological use in combination with heating. The water temperature is often smaller than 110 °C. The entire installed load rises up to approx. 50 MWth.
Appreciable capacities already exist in USA, on the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, New Zealand, Mexico and Italy. World-wide approximately 16.000 MWth and 8.000 MWel are installed (by 2000). Geothermal power plants reach up to 8.000 operation hours per year and therefore produced world-wide with 49.3 billion kWh in the year 2000 as much energy as wind energy plants.
